Mi novio

Chuck spots the monkey and holds her breath, "oh my god I'm in love"

"Oh no I don't think he noticed me, I should have done my hair."

"Oh my god oh my god oh my god, he loves me too. We are soul mates."

"You'll call me right?"
Sigh her phone hasn't made a peep

ooh ooh

I just saw David Cross at the super market. He's quite the gentleman, let me go ahead of him through the doors and all. Whenever I see celebrities I try to be respectful of thier space; I don't run at them slobbering for an autograph. I smile a little like I am saying "don't worry I'll keep your secret." I know who they are, they ( I imagine) know who I am, we can share a quick wink and move on.
Like the time I saw Richard Pryor at the farmer's market. He looked a bit run down and had a bag stuck on his foot and rather than making a fuss I just gave him a little nod and let him be.

Thar be a storm a brewing

Not really but I liked saying it. I might be closing my blog to the general public, you know it's just so interesting and frequently updated that I am overrun with comments and emails and interview requests. Anyway if you still want to read it email me at kathryn@ethosyoga.net and I'll add you to the list.

My list

A few years ago, while sitting in an airport I wrote a list of 97 things I wanted to do before I die in a small moleskin notebook. I would have written 100 things but I would have been making stuff up to fill in the last three and the number is arbitrary anyway. I'd like to keep some of them to myself but here are some highlights.

1. Learn to play the piano. (I can play some Charlie Brown Christmas songs but I don't think that counts.)

2. Build a kite.

5. Go to the Opera.

7. Sell one of my inventions. (Have I told you about my papoussycat carrier?)

13. Sing on stage.

17. Serve Vipassana.

19. Understand how planes stay up and how ships float.

21. Get at least one more degree.

27. Be okay with criticsm.

28. Eat slowly.

29. Know more about science, all kinds.

33. Be a more patient person.

36. Learn all the capitals of the world.

39. Vote in all the little elections.

40. Read about history.

51. Never learn to spell.

52. Learn something about classical music.

53. Speak an asian language.

58. Be able to decipher different types of birds.

59. Know the names of plants and where to plant them.

64. Talk to strangers

68. Learn to sail.

70. Stand up for people.

78. Be less afraid.

85. Learn the rules for baseball but not for football.

88. Go to concerts.

92. Become an interpreter.

95. Get Carl Castle's voice on my home answering machine.

As of today I have only crossed two things off my list.

26. Own my own yoga studio.
and
27. Stop buying things made by little children in sweatshops.

I think I might be more interested in the idea of doing these things then actually doing them. Most people, I assume have an idea of themselves in thier head that never really matches up to who they are. I think that sounds meloncholy but it isn't meant to.

Toronto

We had a lovely time on our vacation in Toronto. We mostly ate at an array of Vegan and Raw restaurants, walked till it was time to eat again, went for drinks and back to the hotel so we could go to bed and wake up and order room service.
Here are some pictures

This was the view from our room.

This is part of the University of Toronto in Queen's park

This is the Royal Ontario Museum, which demonstrates how Toronto Architects and designers like to add contemporary design right onto classic design.

This is the CN tower, beautiful view of the city

They have a glass floor which scared the bejebus out of Dan.
I held his hand.

I swear Dan came too, but all these pictures are of me.

Right, I learned this lesson on the 4th of July

Dear self,
Please remember that on big Summer Holidays you must open the yoga studio in the morning and close in the evening. Most people, including you, are happy to come to yoga in the morning but by 5pm simply can't be torn away from the sunshine and the possibilities of grilled veggie bratwurst and Red Stripes.

I cite the following evidence:
July 4th 2006
9:30 am in attendance 7
5:30 pm in attendance 0

May 28th 2007
9:30 am in attendance 16
5:30 pm in attendance 0

Ok? Get it?
Take a damn night off for cripe's sake
Jeez

Sincerely,
Kathryn Nicolai
