My list

A few years ago, while sitting in an airport I wrote a list of 97 things I wanted to do before I die in a small moleskin notebook. I would have written 100 things but I would have been making stuff up to fill in the last three and the number is arbitrary anyway. I'd like to keep some of them to myself but here are some highlights.

1. Learn to play the piano. (I can play some Charlie Brown Christmas songs but I don't think that counts.)

2. Build a kite.

5. Go to the Opera.

7. Sell one of my inventions. (Have I told you about my papoussycat carrier?)

13. Sing on stage.

17. Serve Vipassana.

19. Understand how planes stay up and how ships float.

21. Get at least one more degree.

27. Be okay with criticsm.

28. Eat slowly.

29. Know more about science, all kinds.

33. Be a more patient person.

36. Learn all the capitals of the world.

39. Vote in all the little elections.

40. Read about history.

51. Never learn to spell.

52. Learn something about classical music.

53. Speak an asian language.

58. Be able to decipher different types of birds.

59. Know the names of plants and where to plant them.

64. Talk to strangers

68. Learn to sail.

70. Stand up for people.

78. Be less afraid.

85. Learn the rules for baseball but not for football.

88. Go to concerts.

92. Become an interpreter.

95. Get Carl Castle's voice on my home answering machine.

As of today I have only crossed two things off my list.

26. Own my own yoga studio.
and
27. Stop buying things made by little children in sweatshops.

I think I might be more interested in the idea of doing these things then actually doing them. Most people, I assume have an idea of themselves in thier head that never really matches up to who they are. I think that sounds meloncholy but it isn't meant to.

Oh weird, I've just come from writing a list for my blog, too. One of those birthday lists.

I miss you, dear girl. France feels far away.

What a great idea! It's one thing to say these things to yourself, but writing them down gives them a certain reality.
